Consider this, thousands of Fender amp heads from the 60's still floating around,a majority of them have 4 ohm OT's and are still working fine after almost 50 years and only god knows what speakers were plugged in along the way ! A good bet would be 4 ohms or higher. You can safely go UP in speaker impedance, 8 ohm speaker/ 4 ohm transformer.the theory is 2x up.but not 2 x down, the current load could cause damage. I would be curious to know the OT p/n used in the 8 ohm Bandmaster chassis mentioned above. Now I'm not saying that Fender never used an 8 ohm OT in a 2x12 Bandmaster, but if they did, there is no listed reference for it. Dual Showmans are the exact same amp with a 4 ohm OT. It's always better to match the impedance, BUT I wouldn't change the tranny. I usually ran it at about 3 or so on the volume. Now there are 8 Ohm Output transformers that Fender used, but typically they are found in single Showmans and capable of 85 watts. I used a single 8 ohm speaker with a 68 Bassman head for thousands of gigs, no problems, and it sounded fine, but it was never dimed. Supposedly gives the BMSTER a bit of clean boost. Many times players or techs would use the 50 watt Bassman Output Transformer in the Bandmaster chassis, also 4 ohms, pn 125A13A. () This product is no longer in stock and unfortunately can no longer be delivered. They are looked down on a bit by Fender guys, but all the better for you, the prices are low compared to the higher watt models. It broke up very nicely and wasnt harsh sounding at all. The silverface Bandmaster Reverb is a typical ab763 amp and shares basic circuit design with the Super Reverb, Deluxe Reverb, Twin Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, Pro Reverb and Twin Reverb. ![]() Thankfully, the PT is the only one that arguably doesn't alter the sound. I actually think with the original grill cloth and handle in brown, with the blonde knobs, it looks rather sexy. The good news is all the guts are intact and that of a 1963. I just had it fired up and IT SOUNDS AMAZING! It was originally Blonde but as so many people did in the 70's that thought it looked dated, they changed it to Black with new black Tolex. It sounded GREAT I absolutely love the clean fender sound. I had it totally inspected (400) I have been playing it at home and at my church a lot for the past month.
